Working Collaboratively

One of the questions people often have when considering therapy is, "How will I know if it's helping?"

Unlike many services, therapy is not always about finding quick solutions or achieving clearly defined outcomes. Sometimes the changes can be subtle and develop gradually over time. At other times, clients notice significant shifts in their relationships, confidence, emotional wellbeing or understanding of themselves. From the beginning of our work together, we will regularly review how therapy is progressing and whether it is meeting your needs. Therapy is a collaborative process, and I believe it is important that we openly discuss what is working well, what may need adjusting, and whether the focus of our work remains relevant to you.

Reviews may include reflecting on:

Changes you have noticed in your thoughts, feelings or behaviours

Improvements in relationships and communication

Increased self-awareness and understanding

Emotional wellbeing and resilience

Progress towards goals identified during therapy

How you are finding the work

New insights or perspectives that have emerged

Sometimes clients begin therapy with a clear goal in mind. Others arrive simply knowing that something does not feel right. Both approaches are equally valid, and goals often become clearer as the work develops.

Why I Do Not Use Client Testimonials

People occasionally ask why there are no client testimonials on my website.

Whilst testimonials are common in many professions, therapy is different. Counselling and psychotherapy involve deeply personal experiences and confidential relationships. Many therapists choose not to request testimonials from current or former clients because of the unique nature of therapeutic work and the ethical considerations involved. I believe that choosing a therapist is less about reading reviews and more about finding someone whose experience, approach and values feel right for you. For this reason, I aim to be transparent about my qualifications, experience, professional memberships and therapeutic approach, allowing you to make an informed decision about whether I may be the right therapist for your needs.

Taking the Next Step

Finding the right therapist is an important decision. If you would like to discuss what brings you to therapy, ask questions about how I work, or explore whether we may be a good fit, I welcome you to get in touch for an initial conversation.
